INSTALLATION OF REPLACEMENT STATORS INTO
HOUSINGS

Due to the possibility of shrinkage of the stator core and motor housing during heating and
cooling or loss of material during cleaning of the outside of stator and inside of motor
housing, these instructions must be followed.
1. Determine position of wire bundle from existing stator and clearly mark the wire
bundle location. For pumps with cable entry located on the top of the motor and if
equipped with an internal seal fail and/or stator leak detection device, locate the slot
in the stator and mark this location as well. The new stator bundle and slot for
internal probes must be located in same position.
2. Heat and remove old stator from housing.
3. Allow housing to cool, then thoroughly clean inside of housing with wire wheel or
sanding and carefully clean the interior to remove all oil or contaminants. On top
cable entry pumps equipped with internal seal fail or stator leak detector device,
there will be a relief in the stator locating shoulder to allow the probe wires to pass
though to the lower area of the stator housing. To allow for easier reassembly, use
a small grinder to open up a small additional relief area in the shoulder.
4. Prepare new stator for installation. Never!! Stand stators on their copper lead
ends!! Make sure exterior of stator is clean and free of contaminants.
5. Bring housing back up to temperature.
6. Apply Loctite 620 retaining compound around the stator diameter. For small stators
up to 30 HP apply in three rings around circumference of stator at the top, middle
and bottom. For larger stators greater than 30 HP apply four rings around
circumference of stator at the top, bottom and two additional evenly spaced
locations in the middle. The use of accelerant products like Loctite 7649 are not
recommended as cure time is too quick to allow for any stator re-positioning if
necessary. If a quicker set time is desired use Locktite 609.
7. Locate new stator so wire bundles and slot if equipped are in original location
(marked in step #1), then carefully lower stator into housing. Be sure stator is fully
seated on shoulder in housing, then allow to cool before additional assembly.
IMPORTANT: RETAINING COMPOUND LOCTITE 609 or 620 MUST BE
USED WITH INSTALLATION OF ALL NEW OR REWOUND STATORS!
